Lighting and Mirrors What's important about these makeup tools!
How many of you ladies have ever noticed that when you've left the department store counter and have gone outside, the makeup just doesn't look the same? It looked so much better when I was at the store. Now you feel that you've bought a bunch of stuff that you really won't use. This is such a common story that I've come across. What changed? If it looked great inside and not elsewhere, with no rigorous activity, the only common factors are Lighting and Mirrors!! Check out our section on Makeup Counter Tips. There are some interesting parts on lighting. So, let's see why these makeup tools are so important.
• Lighting: What do you have at home or at work?

Lighting is such a crucial element in applying makeup. Take a look at the above image. This is a typical bathroom where many of do our makeup. Look carefully, if the light source comes from above, it will create a lot of shadows on your face. How will you look when you go outside? Did you really cover everything? Is that shade of brown the one you really wanted? You really don't know!

The above image is really typical of department store lighting. Generally, lighting in department stores come from above. Also, one big difference is that most major stores use fluorescent lighting. What's wrong with that? The basic rule is that if the lighting is coming from a fluorescent source, the colors will come out too blue. So, will you have the same tone if you go outside? At work? At home?

So what would you say "the best light" is? In general, natural sunlight from in front. However, for those of us that do not have sunlight at our disposal, switching your light bulbs to a “globe base” will be a great substitute.
• Mirrors: What to know about them?

There are various mirrors that we work with. 1. The bathroom mirror: If you have any windows in the bathroom, open them. If you can change your light bulb to the "globe base" kind, try it out. If your light is coming from above and you can't change it, look up towards the light while putting on your makeup. This will decrease the shadows on your face.
2. The vanity mirror in your bedroom: If you prefer doing your makeup routine on your bedroom vanity, open your shades and let the sun come in. If you have additional light sources in your room, place one on your vanity to get that straight on light. 3. The small mirror you see above can also help: There are many small mirrors that come with the globe light bulbs already installed, so that you can get the light hitting you from the front. Just make sure that the bulbs are not fluorescent.
