In general, the skin tones associated with darker complexioned African Americans are either red, olive, or yellow.Remember, some areas of the face tend to be lighter than the rest. What color foundation do you choose, the lighter or the darker? The common tendency is to go with the lighter; the oils of our skin tend to darken any product we apply to our face.
Quick Tip: The next time you go to the makeup department, try one shade that is the lighter one on one side of the face and the darker on the other side. Let it sit for a while and then come back to the counter to see which one looks the most natural.
